The Maunga & Rakau
Rimu Heights is located on the bush line of Maungatautari, also known as Sanctuary Mountain. Maungatautari Sanctuary Mountain is a world class conservation project which re-introduces species and establishes breeding programmes for these species. The Maunga has an ideal ecological environment for this project and has proven so, with success in breeding programmes and re-introduction. Sanctuary Mountain is one of the largest pest-proof fenced projects in the world, at 3,400 hectares and with 47km of fence. This fence borders Rimu Heights.
Rimu Heights is a family owned dairy farm, with second and third generations currently contributing to the caretaking of this land. When the family first came to Rimu Heights in 1989 the soil fertility was very poor and the hills were yellow with ragwort - the farm often referred to as 'Golden Acres' by neighbours. Time, love and a keenness to see the land flourish, has motivated the transformation of the land. Now beautifully lush and productive.
The family believe this is a place worth sharing with others, which we do so through our venue spaces. Rimu Heights offers a number of spaces centred around and absorbed by the native bush. In each unique space, find yourself reconnected with nature, softened by its sounds, calmness and beauty. The Barn and Under the Trees are a reflection of the values and spirit of Rimu Heights - they are places of celebration, tranquility and connection.
